A. W. “Whit” Riter, III is President of Riter Management Company, L. C. and The A. W. Riter, Jr. Family Foundation. He is also engaged in the investment management of Riter Partners Ltd., Pinstripe Investments, L.P. and other related family entities.
Mr. Riter began a 22-year banking career in 1978 with Texas Commerce Bank in Houston. From 1984 to 2000, he was associated with Bank of America and its predecessor banks in various lending and executive positions. He served as President of the Tyler bank, as well as Regional Manager of the East Texas market (Mr. Riter was appointed Chair of the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board by Governor Rick Perry in November 2008). He was first appointed to the Coordinating Board in 2004 and in the fall of 2005, he was reappointed by the Governor for a full six year term that expired August 2011. He also received a gubernatorial appointment to the Select Commission on Higher Education & Global Competitiveness. He participates in other numerous community, business and educational organizations, including serving on the University of Texas at Tyler Development Board, University of Texas Health Center at Tyler Development Board, UT Tyler Foundation, University of Texas Chancellor’s Council, Tyler Health Facilities Development Corporation Board (President), College for All Texans Foundation, Encouragement FM (Chairman), East Texas Communities Foundation, East Texas State Fair Association, Texas Rose Festival Association, and Grace Community Church Stewardship Committee.
His previous associations include service on the following Board of Directors: Mercy Ships, Institute for Public School Initiatives of The University of Texas System, Regional East Texas Food Bank, East Texas Food Bank Foundation, Salvation Army, East Texas State Fair Association, All Saints Episcopal School, East Texas Medical Center Hospital, Hospice of East Texas, Leadership Tyler, Texas Society to Prevent Blindness, Trinity Mother Frances Hospital Foundation, Tyler Area Chamber of Commerce, Tyler Junior College Foundation, Tyler Museum of Art, United Way of Smith County, Zale Lipshy Hospital, the Texas Treasury Safekeeping Trust Company, and the Task Force on Higher Education Incentive Funding.
In 1989, Mr. Riter received the W. C. Windsor Award from the Tyler Area Chamber of Commerce for Outstanding Community Service. He earned his B.B.A. from Southern Methodist University and his M.B.A. from the University of Texas at Austin.
